Attended Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats

Just came home after attended the 2 days Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats.  I find that its a very wonderful, very useful and easy understandable course! My knowledge has certainly widen alot more. This is so far the best training among all the other trainings i ever attended in my 2 years working in this current company. One can make full use of this knowledge in almost every parts of our life(relationships, family, work, customer service, business, etc).

Actually we are constantly wearing different colour hats at the same time when we are in a situation, just that we did not even realise it. In this course, there is a very simple rule: To wear 1 hat at a time. I feel that this is very true and able to get us focus on thinking of a certain key area at a time before moving on to other key areas. For example, one can focus on thinking/discussing/gathering information on the situation then move on to identify the problems to this situation and so on... If not we will be very messed up and confused which end up to no where or has lost alot of time due to these confusion of our minds.

In fact, most of the humans are wearing the black hat. Our normal reactions to most things or new things are negative.

For example, a kid asks his/her mummy to buy him/her this toy; most mummies will reply "Cannot buy! You have sooooo much toys at home already... When the toys are spoilt then buy." This actually dishearten the kid and makes him feel that whatever things he/she said are not going to happen.

The reasons why humans normally wear the black hat is because scare of changes, unable to adapt to new ideas/changes, its been drilled inside our brain since we were young and by the people around us.

So let's all start by practicing to stop wearing the black hat first in any situation!

Oh by the way,

  • Blue = Managing all other hats(One hat at a time),
  • White = Gathering information(No evaluation),
  • Red = Feelings(No explanation needed),
  • Green = Alternatives and Creative ideas(No killing of ideas),
  • Yellow = Positives bebefits(Must give reasons) and lastly the
  • Black = Cautious and Difficulties.
